TRANSFORMING THE EDGE

“Transforming the Edge”, is a conceptual art series, that explores the role of collaboration at the margins. This series was inspired by listening to conversations between creative professionals, my time in nature, my professional experiences and an art prompt on the theme of “Emerge” during times of uncertainty.

No one person has the solution for the challenges the world faces, from climate change to income inequality. Solutions to empower humanity can be developed and implemented when we pay attention to the voices that society marginalizes/exploits. This includes farmers, people facing homelessness, and folx living with intersectional identities - race, gender, disability, caste/class.

These six paintings explore how might we transform society, by collaborating with others who have different perspectives, listening to leaders at the edge of industries, and those society marginalizes/exploits. The stripes white, blue and pink, are symbolic of dominant perspectives in society - white representing Eurocentric, and blue and pink for binary gender perspectives. I ask you the viewer to reflect and act. How might you support a business with non-white leadership that is challenging narratives about who belongs in an industry? How might you advance the role of Indigenous femmes, in leading climate change action? How might we integrate wisdom from different natural environments to eliminate hyper-consumerism?
